Meeting Minutes
Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association Executive Committee Meeting Minutes - August 7, 2007

Present: Russell Jones, Rhett Bailey, Ed Tilden, Kirby Shealy, Lewis Kirk, Larry Hembree
Absent: John Hudson, Rachel Peavy, Bud Tibshrany, Valerie Marcil

Old Business

1. USC Arboretum Letter
Ed Tilden has formulated the letter to the USC Biology Department re: the SFNA interest in the continuing work on the Arboretum and the commitment by USC maintain the Arboretum in the future. Once Bud Tibshrany signs it, he will mail it to the department. Ed has talked to Pat DeCoursey about the content and she is in favor of sending it.

2. Neighborhood Street Party Plans - September 9
The street party date has been changed to Sunday, September 9 from 5-8 p.m. due to the Georgia-USC game being telecast the afternoon of the 8th. The party will be held between the Wilmot/Duncan/Kalmia intersection and Mimosa. Larry will see if the band (Slap Wore Out) is ok to change to Sunday and will let John Hudson know how to get the block closed. Rachel Peavy and Larry Hembree will coordinate the party and let everyone know the logistics. Larry will get Big T’s to cater. The party will be BYOB. There will be a membership table set up for selling new memberships. Lewis will coordinate flyers for the event that will be distributed throughout the neighborhood.

New Business

1. Next Cando Grant Application
At the next general meeting (August 28th), we will put forth two projects that the CANDO grant could be written for. These will be a. trying to beautify the area at the Wilmot/Duncan/Kalmia Drive intersection or b. signage for the neighborhood. Lewis will investigate toppers on the existing street signs as the first option with more substantial neighborhood signs later.

2. Wilmot Street Trash
We decided that the Wilmot Street/Kilbourne Hill issues with the area behind the Kilbourne Street fence is more complicated than we want to take on at this time. The major problem is that if Kilbourne Hill takes on the upkeep of the property they will more than likely not let the Wilmot residents place their yard trash there, as has been the history.

3. Speed Humps
Rhett Bailey distributed a letter he will be sending David Brewer, City Traffic Engineer, re: moving forward with figuring out a way to install speed humps along Kalmia Drive. Ed Tilden said that Bloomwood residences would probably follow suit if Kalmia made this happen. The letter was signed by the officers and will be signed by John Hudson, Safety Committee chairperson and send to Brewer.

4. Next General Meeting date and agenda
The next general meeting will be held at 6pm Tuesday, August 28 at the Sherwood Forest Presbyterian Church. The Executive Committee will come up with the agenda which will be distributed before the meeting.

5. Officer Nominations
The Executive Committee will act as the Nomination Committee for the new officers, who will be voted on at the November general meeting. The four Executive Committee officers will rotate off this year and the three at-large members will stay in office for one more year. The Executive Committee will have a separate meeting to decide who their nominees are and will announce the roster at the general meeting. Russell and Rhett showed interest in running again. Larry will not run. Valerie was not at the meeting.

Other New Business

General Meeting Consistent Dates:
There will be consistent dates for the next year’s general meetings. Those dates will be the 2nd Tuesday in February, May, August and November at 6pm. Russell will OK the dates with the church to make sure we can use it.
We will give out a list of the dates at the August General Meeting. The meeting dates would be Tuesday, November 13, 2007; Tuesday, February 12, 2008; Tuesday, May 13, 2008; Tuesday, August 12, 2008; and Tuesday, November 11, 2008.

Trash Pick up Day:
The next trash pick up day will be September 1. Brad Painter has sent flyers out to be distributed by block captains.

Respectfully submitted by Larry Hembree for Valerie Marcil.
