Meeting Notes from August 28, 2007

Meeting Minutes
The meeting was held at the Sherwood Forest Presbyterian Church and ran from approximately 6 –7:45 PM. About 29 people were in attendance, with Association President, Russell Jones, presiding.

Russell opened the meeting. Vice President, Larry Hembree, talked about the upcoming elections for Association officers and said that nominations were needed for a November meeting vote. He also discussed ideas for a new CANDO City grant and suggested we focus on putting neighborhood signs (“toppers”) on all the street signs. A committee was formed with Cari Pulliam, Larry, and Ed Tilden.

It was noted that we have about a 27% membership rate, with 70 members in the Association.

Rachael Peavey announced our first ever general neighborhood street party for Sunday, September 9, 5-8 PM in the block of Kalmia between Wilmot and Mimosa. The SFNA is to provide barbeque, slaw, mac and cheese, tea, ice and blue grass music.

Ed Tilden reported on the USC Arboretum meeting with USC and the neighborhood. Someone (Cari?) encouraged contacting the USC geology department for possible financial support – it is a department with more money than many others.

A note was made that we will be having regular general meetings on the second Tuesday of the second month of each quarter.

Someone brought up the idea of considering round-abouts for traffic control. Right now we are focusing on speed humps – probably on Kalmia first.

We will ask City Council Candidates to attend and speak at our February meeting.

Lewis Kirk passed out information on the Columbia Plan 2018, along with a survey. The group also discussed the recent concerns about tear-downs and fill-in housing that is out of character with neighborhoods. City Council has passed an interim measure to address this issue and our neighborhood has to decide whether to “opt-in” or not.
