There have been a number of auto breaking incidents in the Lake Kathwood area and into Forest Acres area. Please keep a look out and follow the following tips:
VEHICLE THEFT PREVENTION Common Sense Park in a well-populated areas. Close windows and lock doors. Take your possessions with you. Secure all personal items in the glove compartment or trunk. When placing items in the trunk, try to do so in an inconspicuous manner, or before arriving at your destination. Lock the car doors and close the windows, sunroof and convertible top. If you have an alarm, make sure to set it. If you don’t have an alarm, consider obtaining other theft deterrent devices. Never park in dark areas or any areas near bushes and shrubs where attackers can hide. Park in well-lighted areas where you can easily see your car and anyone nearby. Anti-Theft Devices Install alarms that will activate sirens, lights or horns. This might scare potential thieves. Have locking lug nuts to prevent tires from being stolen. Install a battery-locking device to prevent the battery form being stolen. Having your car windows tinted makes it harder for attackers to judge who you are and how many people are in your car. Tinted windows also make it more difficult for criminals to look in your car when they are searching for valuables. Other Prevention Tips Keep your spare keys in your wallet, not in your car. At home, light your driveway all night. Elsewhere, park in well-lit areas near pedestrian traffic. After opening an automatic gate to underground parking, watch out for thieves waiting to slip inside. Wait for the gate to close behind you. Engrave your stereo and other on-board valuables with your driver's license number. If you see any suspicious person or activity near a vehicle, call the police immediately. Check your license plate frequently to ensure it has not been stolen. Recovery Tips Keep your license plate number in a safe place so that you will have the information when needed. Keep a record for all model and serial numbers for your belongings in a safe location. This will help us to locate your items if they are stolen. HALT! (Halt Auto Break-Ins Today)
