Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association Vision, Mission and Goals

Vision
The Sherwood Forest neighborhood is one of the preferred places to live in downtown Columbia, SC.
Mission
The Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association is committed to making our neighborhood a safe, secure, fun and friendly place to live where all residents have a voice, and strive to care for each other and our community as a whole.

Objectives
We will strive to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood by focusing on the following long-term objectives:

  • Improve the safety and security of the neighborhood for all residents.
  • Improve communications among all residents through our association, website, the Block Captains organization, regular association meetings, and neighborhood social and civic events.
  • Warmly welcoming new residents to our neighborhood.
  • Better communicate to all residents the value of membership in the neighborhood association, and continue to grow resident and property owner membership in the association.
  • Improve relationships with the City of Columbia, the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods, and Richland County in order to enhance the neighborhood quality of life.
  • Work with the city and county to improve the enforcement of zoning and code violations, and assist residents to understand the zoning and code regulations and how they contribute to an improved quality of life for all.
  • Work closely with the University of South Carolina to enhance the USC Belser Arboretum as a valuable asset to both the university and our community.
  • Create an oral history of our neighborhood that all residents can share and learn from.
  • Maintain good stewardship of the association’s records and finances.
  • Improve the identification and recognition of the Sherwood Forest Neighborhood to create a sense of ‘belonging’ and ‘community’ among the residents, potential residents, and visitors.
  • Improve relationships and communication with adjacent neighborhood communities such as Shandon, Heathwood, Shiloh, and Kilbourne Hills in order to improve the local community’s quality of life.
