Officer Folding of the Columbia Police Department spoke on issues concerning neighborhood crime. He is part of the Community Response Team and is tracking all crime in our neighborhoods and keeping the public informed via the internet. See a crime? Call 911, then contact him at 803-354-2759 (city cell) or email him at mjfolding@columbiasc.net. If you are going on vacation: Send Officer Folding an email telling when you are going and when you are returning. Patrol will drive by your house twice a day to give a general inspection. Don’t leave your belongings in your vehicle. Place them in your trunk or take them into your residence. If solicitors come to your house, never invite them in. Also, ask to see a business license or permit. Please use citizens that have registered with the City of Columbia to do business with you. 3. Financial Report by Rhett Bailey: $1820.00 in our account. Several members had brought their dues checks with them. 4. Update on 4-way signs: The City of Columbia approved the request but state denied the request for 4-way stops at Kalmia/Yale & Kalmia/Blossom. We now need a committee of 6 to assess the traffic patterns in our entire neighborhood and then meet with Councilperson Anne Sinclair, Henry Taylor and Steve Gantt to work on a solution. The committee will consist of John Hudson, Bud Tibshrany, Lewis Kirk, Rhett Bailey, Henry Nechemius and perhaps one other person. 5. Cando Grant: Larry Hembree submitted a CANDO grant requesting $2487.57 to purchase Sherwood Forest sign toppers to identify our neighborhood. Charmaine Clark, who is in charge of CANDO funds, reported back that CANDO funds are currently frozen. 6. Social: May 18, 2008 will be our Caribbean themed party in Robin Hood Court from 4-7 pm. We are partnered with Piggly Wiggly via Hugh McColl (paper products) and Sammie’s Deli (wings). Two bands will be performing: 1) Granny’s Got a Gig (blue grass) and 2) Chris Lee (steel drums). Upcoming events: BBQ with Slap Wore Out (blue grass) in September, Halloween hot dog supper partnered with Piggly Wiggly in October, and an adult only (21 and over) party in January. 7. Discussion of Mission and Vision Statement and Goals for 2008 and Volunteer committees to support these goals. Everyone received a handout regarding each item, including committee chair reports. 8. Legal Ordinances: A Zoning/Ordinance handout was distributed. The handout is available to all SFNA residents informing them of what the ordinances are and who to contact to report violations. The SFNA Board of Directors will not be an enforcement team re: the codes but will ask residents who have issues with violating codes to personally take care of the situations. If a resolution cannot be reached, contact Larry Hembree to discuss further. 11. Members and Guests introduced themselves, where they lived and for how long. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
