Approve minutes of last meeting
Minutes were approved with the one addition of correcting the spelling of Henry Nechemias’ last name.

Treasurer Report
Treasurer Rhett Bailey reported that 1263.24 is the SFNA balance with no outstanding bills. We will incur a new debt for new stickers. Around $150.00 was the quote the last time we bought them.

Election of new officers/board
Russell Jones and Ed Tilden shared the list of nominees.

Presented Slate was:
President - Ed Tilden
VP - vacant
Secretary - Larry Hembree
Treasurer - Rhett Bailey

Members at Large:
Bud Tibshrany
Henry Nechemias
one position vacant

Ed Tilden explained that the committee chairs are all appointed and we’ll revisit those once we elect officers.
Lewis Kirk also added that we could always use some more block captains.
Russell Jones explained that Executive Committee members make some decisions and that they do meet sometimes with the Committee Chairs together.
Larry Hembree suggested that we need some females on the slate for diversity and having people from all parts of the neighborhood would be preferable.

Russell Jones nominated Kathy Swanson for an at-large position.
Kristin and Jay Anthony said that they would be block captains.

Henry Nechemias recommended that we close the nominations and vote by acclamation on the entire slate without a vice president. Larry Hembree seconded.

The vote was unanimous in favor.

Ed Tilden said our next meeting would be held in February and we should have a vice president nominee by then.

The Nixle notification system and crime reports, etc.
Ed Tilden talked about the Nixle notification system, which is a system that Sherwood Forest has now subscribed to. It is a notification system for a specific geographical location. Once logging in it lets you see what is available for you to choose to subscribe to and you can get immediate notification from the sites you choose. He also showed us the Nixel page on the webpage. There is no sign up fee for using it.

Ed Tilden displayed the Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association website and explained how it worked. Lewis pointed out that if you are logged in you get access to a lot more information than simply going to the webpage.

Ed Tilden went through the features on the site and answered some questions about it.

Cameron Court Homeowners Association dues waiver request
Cameron Court Homeowners Association had it annual meeting in April 2009, and voted to continue paying the dues to Sherwood Forest Homeowners Association for the 9 homes in Cameron Court at the $10 per home rate in effect at the time. Now that Sherwood Forest has increased the dues to $20, and the Cameron Court homeowners association will not meet again until April 2010, they have asked Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association to accept a payment of $90 for the 9 homes in Cameron Court to carry them through 2010.

Russell Jones made the motion that we accept and the vote was unanimous.

Having formal speakers at meetings as a draw for attendees
Ed Tilden suggested that we have speakers come and speak at meetings, which would draw more members to the meeting. A discussion followed and it was agreed on that that policeman, politicians and other local leaders would be a draw with other interesting guests also considered. Ed asked members to send him suggestions on whom to ask. Lewis said that we might also consider combining speakers with special events.

Membership drive plans
Russell Jones suggested that we have a block captain drive first and then follow that with a membership drive led by the block captains. Lewis said that some block captains are not comfortable knocking on doors so he would like to meet with the block captains first and then see what they are willing to do. We need 23 block captains and can also have co-captains.

Kathy Swanson said that she would be her block captain.

Larry Hembree suggested that Regina Monteith has said we could have another soiree at her house so Larry suggested that we have an adult party at her house in January as a membership kickoff. He’ll work with her on a date and get back to the officers.

Other news
Kathy Swanson said we still need to be on the lookout for strangers in the neighborhood and be aggressive when we are suspicious.

Ed Tilden said that the Arboretum will now be open every Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. and you just have to sign a waiver when you go in,

On November 15th from 1-4 p.m. there will be an Arboretum Open House.

Henry Nechemias made a motion the meeting adjourned.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:23 p.m.

Minutes respectfully submitted by Larry Hembree, SFNA Secretary.
