Here is a list of accomplishments of the SFNA in the past few years with the help of our members and volunteers.
- USC W. Gordon Belser Arboretum CANDO Gardens (exterior of Arboretum) – funded planting and ongoing maintenance
- USC Arboretum volunteer support for open houses & special events
- Neighborhood Identity (supports security & sense of belonging)
- Street sign toppers
- Car stickers
- Block Captain organization
- Distribute neighborhood association flyers (communications)
- Welcome new residents
- Champion block issues
- Neighborhood Watch
- Social (Fun, and supports neighborhood identity) Annual Halloween party
- Adult socials
- Neighborhood block parties w/music, food, games etc.
- Neighborhood character protection
- Interim measures for character protection 2008-2010
- Permanent Community Character protection ordinance (CC1 overlay) 2010
- Facilitate city/county/state road maintenance and traffic control
- Repaving of Kalmia Drive
- Stop signs added on Kalmia Drive to better control traffic flow
- Co-op reduced rate services
- Facilitate criminal issues resolution with CPD
- General meetings as forum for neighbors to address issues of concern
- Communications (supports safety & security, and neighborhood identity)
- Website (One of the best!) – lots of information and resources (www.sherwoodforestneighbors.org)
- Crier eNewsletter (plus printed flyers to all households)
- Block Captains to distribute flyers
- Email communications to all members (all association members with email addresses)
- Nixle alert system (www.nixle.com) – text alerts to your cell phone from association, police, Homeland Security & others.
- Twitter account (follow SherwoodFNA)
- Welcome Packets for new neighbors
- General meetings (once per quarter) – social, formal association business and address neighborhood issues
- Columbia Council of Neighborhoods (CCN) Member – a formal City of Columbia
organization of 100+ city neighborhoods
- Grants for funds from city, county, state, etc. to improve neighborhood
- Recipient of the Celia Mann Award 2010 – presented to a neighborhood or district that has researched and preserved, through a cohesive effort, its structures and common areas.
