Dear Neighbors, As reported in The State newspaper on Thursday, City officials have been informed about a potential human case of West Nile Virus, and our staff has been spraying this week for mosquitoes.

Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter announced today that the Department’s Police Athletic League (PAL) will hold a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 8:30am-1:30pm. The fundraiser will be held at Columbia Police Department's South Region Headquarters (2632 Millwood Avenue).

Representatives of the City, Department of Health and Environmental Control and Dr. Helmut Albrecht of the University of South Carolina held a briefing at City Hall Tuesday to answer questions related to swine flu. In addition, the city's chief of Homeland Security, Harold Reeves, also released and shared the city's pandemic influenza plan.
