In response to legal concerns, staff has made procedural changes to the interim measures and has removed any impediments that prevented an umbrella neighborhood organization like Rosewood from submitting a request for protection under the interim measures. City Council has remanded the changes to the Planning Commission for their consideration and recommendation on June 2nd. Those changes made the process for adopting interim measures a map amendment, rather than a text amendment based upon CCN-recognized boundaries, and the process for a map amendment requires posting of the properties for both the Planning Commission meeting and City Council zoning public hearing.

The City of Columbia now provides a report of neighborhood code violations that is updated about every 60-days. The report now available shows a map of the neighborhood association area with markers for all violations and their status. The marker legend will give you an idea of the types of code violations the city tracks. Our neighborhood code inspector is Tom Chance, 545-3419, techance@columbiasc.net. Contact Tom to report suspected code violations, and then check out the report to see the status. The report is a PDF document that will open in your browser.
