DetailsThe Columbia Police Department has adopted the slogan: "THE POSITIVE DIFFERENCE". Those words don't apply only to the men and women of the department, but also to their number one ally, the citizens of South Carolina's Capital City.
The department has become a leader in the country in making the concept of community policing a reality. Community policing is addressing community concerns at the grassroots level. The plan for Community Policing was developed by the department in concert with broad based representation of community representatives from all segments of the city. As the department moves into the next century, it has set realistic goals and is continuing to develop partnerships throughout the community.

DetailsThe Climate Protection Action Committee (CPAC) is a volunteer group established by the City of Columbia (COC) for the purpose of identifying measures that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gases. The committee's initial focus has been internal to City government. As a future focus, the committee will identify community outreach and education programs to encourage others to take action to live "greener."
CPAC hosts the annual Green is Good for Business Climate Protection Action Conference, where attendees learn more about the environmental challenges our area faces and ways they can make a difference.
With the unveiling of the Green Business program, CPAC is helping businesses and non-profits develop green business models for their organizations.
