We had a work day for the neighborhood-sponsored CANDO gardens outside the Arboretum on Saturday prior to the monthly Sunday Open House for the Arboretum. We had eight hard workers show up for the Saturday work morning and about 20 visitors come through the Open House on Sunday.

Richland County Council is currently considering the recommendations of Transportation Study Commission. The 39 member commission, including Sherwood Forest resident Valerie Marcil, examined transportation needs in the areas of transit (buses), roadways, and bike and pedestrian facilities. After meeting for 18 months, the commission is proposing a vastly improved bus system, solutions to traffic congestion in portions of the county, and a system of sidewalks, bike paths, and greenways to encourage walking and biking. If you are interested in good transportation, now is the time to provide input to the County.

In response to legal concerns, staff has made procedural changes to the interim measures and has removed any impediments that prevented an umbrella neighborhood organization like Rosewood from submitting a request for protection under the interim measures. City Council has remanded the changes to the Planning Commission for their consideration and recommendation on June 2nd. Those changes made the process for adopting interim measures a map amendment, rather than a text amendment based upon CCN-recognized boundaries, and the process for a map amendment requires posting of the properties for both the Planning Commission meeting and City Council zoning public hearing.
