Lewis Kirk attended the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods meeting on Thursday, November 20 as a representative of the Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association.
New Police Chief Tandy Carter spoke about police staffing and patrol coverage. He stated that the department has 316 active officers and 23 openings. Interim City Finance Director Melissa Caughman spoke concerning the progress in closing and having audits of the city's books to get them up to date. Heathwood West was recognized as a new neighborhood. Governor's Hill withdrew their request until boundary issues can be resolved. Council President Tige Watts reported that CCN now has 97 recognized neighborhoods, and that the Project 100 effort to reach 100 neighborhoods is close to completion. Tige Watts reported that CCN had issued a press release opposing the location of a homeless facility on Elmwood and Main. The CCN Annual Holiday Social will be held on Thursday, December 18 at 6:30pm at the Eau Claire Print Building (3907 Ensor Avenue). The social will serve as the December meeting. The next CCN meeting is set for January 22.
