From Jeff Rainwater, Community Development:
Hi everyone, I hope things are well in your community. Here are our updates for this week:
City Council Open House
On Wednesday, September 9, from 5:00 to 8:00pm at City Hall, the two At Large City Councilpersons, Tameika Issac Devine and Daniel Rickenmann, will host an Open House. They will be discussing public safety, economic issues, city services, and neighborhood concerns and they want you to attend. To schedule a time to personally talk with them, call 545-3061 between 8:30am and 5:00pm. In addition to Kirkman Finlay, these two are also your representatives on Council, they are accountable to all of the City of Columbia and here is your chance to sit face to face and talk about your concerns. Extra police officers, street paving, animal control, taxes - these are things to be discussed; we speak of these items often, so now talk to Council.
City Manager Search
Do you want the right person as City Manager of Columbia? Give us your input, tell City Council what are the best business skills this person should have. Thursday, September 10, at 6:00pm at City Hall will be an open forum to hear your input. Come and have your say about the future leadership of Columbia.
Air & Ground Show
October 10 and 11 at McEntire Joint National Guard Base will be the Air & Ground Expo '09, brought to you by the Air National Guard. The gates open at the base at 9:00am (I'm not military but I expect you will need proper ID to get on base) and admission is free. These have been very good in the past.
Public Hearing on Tractor Trailer Parking
At yesterday's Council meeting, the ordinance regulating parking of these large trucks passed. As I said before you can read the full ordinance on the City's web page. This will hopefully make a difference in some of our neighborhoods where it is a problem.
Labor Day Holiday
The City of Columbia will be closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. Trash and recycling pick up will be on schedule.
Thanks for your time and have a safe and happy holiday weekend.
