SFNA Meeting Minutes
Here are the minutes from the SFNA general meeting held February 9, 2010.

Minutes from Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association General Meeting
February 9, 2010 - 6:30 p.m.

Welcome
Larry Hembree, SFNA Secretary, called the meeting to order. He announced he was standing in for President Ed Tilden, who had to teach a class at Midlands Tech.

Treasurer’s Report
Rhett Bailey, SFNA Treasurer, reported that there is currently $1,093.97 in the bank account with some recent expenses being annual web hosting fee of $219.43, car stickers $149.80 and monthly CANDO maintenance $30.00.

Mayor Candidates
Larry introduced Columbia mayoral candidates Steve Morrison, Kirkman Finley and Steve Benjamin. Each candidate addressed the audience for ten minutes and then there was a Q and A session. The candidates covered such issues as fiscal responsibility, Main Street development, a full time mayor system and other things like small business startup and the city being more business friendly, etc.

Arboretum Update
Valerie Marcil told the group that Pat Decoursey had now opened the gate to the Bloomwood side of the Belser Arboretum on Wednesdays and people could walk through during that time. Pat is there during the day when they are open. Valerie also said that we were paying 30.00 per month to have the CANDO gardens maintained.

Kalmia Paving
Lewis Kirk announced that Kalmia Drive was going to be paved before June and that if anyone on Kalmia had concerns about the process in relation to their own driveways or yards to let Lewis know and he would get this information to the city.

Community Development
Columbia Community Development Liaison Gerry Lynn Hall had handouts with several upcoming events on them including Super Saturday and a celebration at Owens Field. She also talked about the Map Your Neighborhood program that the City of Columbia in partnering with SLED where neighbors gather to discuss plans in case there is a natural disaster, emergency, etc. She suggests we implement this program and will be glad to return to our next meeting to walk through it. Larry Hembree told her that he had the DVD outlining the program and would be looking at it asap. Ed Tilden had already seen it.

Social Event
Larry thanked SFNA resident Regina Monteith for agreeing to host a membership party. He said that the January party did not transpire but that there would be one in March or April at her house. Date TBA.

Belinda Gergel
District 3 City Councilperson Belinda Gergel was in attendance and closed out the meeting by urging people to stay on top of the issues in the mayor race and voting. She stressed that the city, state and nation were all going through transition. She also said that she was keeping up with crime throughout the area and that Sherwood Forest must be doing ok since she had heard very little from Ed, Lewis, Henry Nechemius or Larry.

Larry thanked Belinda for the help she has given us, especially with our four way stop signs added a year ago.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
