Arboretum Open House and Work Day News
The W. Gordon Belser Arboretum will hold its January Open House on Sunday, January 17 from 1-4pm. The Bloomwood and Wilmot Gates will open at 1pm for trail walking and Museum visitation. A brief program at 2pm will include a guided walk to see the major progress on Operation Fence Clear and Operation Fence Screen; that half-hour walk will also include a view down a remarkabe new path into the jungle-like pinewoods of the Harvin property, over the fence from our Arboretum north boundary. One of the most frequently asked questions about the Arboretum is: "What did the Arboretum look like 3 and a half years ago when the Restoration started?; or: did I take pictures before the Restoration started?" Now you can actually experience and wonder at that starting condition.

Weather and other factors permitting, the Wednesday Work Day for Arboretum crew and volunteers, as well as Trail Walking Opportunities for visitors during the Wednesday Work Day will be held January 13 between the hours of 8 am and 2pm. Please read the Waiver of Responsibility Agreement, then sign the register on entering the Bloomwood Gate (only) and upon leaving. Also announce yourself to the Arboretum Director, Pat DeCoursey or her assistant Gene Lindler. This precaution will prevent you from being accidentally locked into the Arboretum in case the Work Crew has to leave unexpectely early. Please remember: no pets, alcohol, tobacco, picnics, jogging or loud electronic devices within the Arboretum and STAY ON THE TRAIL at all times. We hope you enjoy your visit. Come back again; the forests and gardens will only get better as spring rapidly advances.
