SHERWOOD FOREST CRIER
March 1, 2020
USC Belser Arboretum Open House
Sunday, March 15, 1-4pm
All are invited to the monthly Open House at W. Gordon Belser Arboretum. Due to a rainy February open house, John Cely returns March 15 to measure big trees and reveal the urban forest as we walk the trail. John is a retired DNR biologist, conservationist, expert on South Carolina old growth, and a wonderful storyteller. Meet at the outdoor classroom at 2pm.
Note that pathways are natural and pass through hilly terrain. Restrooms are not available. Please leave pets at home.
Contact Gail Wojtowicz at 618 402-8736 or by email or see USC's Department of Biological Sciences W. Gordon Belser Arboretum web page. Find event info and sign up for the newsletter on Facebook.
SFNA Adopt-A-Highway Clean Up
The Saturday, February 8 clean up has been postponed to a date to be announced. Feel free to freelance!
Please contact Dave Nelson at 803 447-4793 or firstname.lastname@example.org for information or any questions.
No Poop Bags in Leaf Piles!
Pet waste in plastic bags should not be placed in yard debris, but should be placed in the green household waste roll cart or otherwise properly disposed of!
The City picks up household garbage from the green roll carts every Thursday. Recycling from the blue roll carts is picked up on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Roll carts are to be placed at curbside no later than 8am on the day of the collection and removed no later than 7:30pm on the day of collection. Yard trimmings are picked up on Fridays.
For more information on the City's Solid Waste & Recycling program, see http://www.columbiasc.net/solid-waste. The site lists and describes the types of items that can be recycled. It also has a Waste Wizard which allows you to enter a street address and see the schedule at that location, and will also show pick up dates that are rescheduled due to a holiday or other special circumstance.
SFNA General Meeting
Tuesday, May 12, 6:30pm-8pm
The next general meeting of the Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 from 6:30pm-8pm at the Sherwood Forest Presbyterian Church on the corner of Wilmot Avenue and Beltline Boulevard. Join us at 6pm to meet and greet your neighbors! Refreshments will be served.
If you have any questions or concerns, or ideas for speakers, please let us know!
We are making an effort to send out these informational emails around the first of every month to keep neighbors up do date on neighborhood events, and other events and information of interest. It's cheaper and better for the environment not to print and pass out fliers! But we could all probably use the exercise!
If you have information of interest to the neighborhood, please pass it along and we may include it in a future Crier.
Tell your friends and neighbors to subscribe. No membership required, but of course we would like everybody to join! New neighbor? Let us know and we'll send out the welcome wagon.
