Tired of Stepping, Swimming & Playing in Dog Poop?
Pathogens including bacteria, viruses, and parasites found in all pet waste can spread diseases directly to humans and other pets that come in contact with it. So not only is it gross to step in, it can be harmful to humans and animals. Home owners should pick up and toss waste from their yards into household garbage (the green rollcarts, not into trash piles) once per week. However, anytime dogs poop in public areas, waste must be picked up and properly disposed of, and if you do not, you can be fined.

Our neighborhood is applying for a Pet Waste Station through the City of Columbia's Trash the Poop program to help keep our neighborhood clean and safe. The station will be located on City right of way at the intersection of Kalmia and Wilmot in front of the Powers' home. Thanks to the Powers to agreeing to this!

The station will hold bags for dog owners to use for waste, which should then be disposed of in trash cans, not in curbside waste piles. A few more neighbors need to sign Trash the Poop agreement forms to be able to apply for the free dispenser. Forms will be available at the meeting on Tuesday, August 8, and those who sign will get free leash bag dispensers and bumper stickers.

USC Belser Arboretum Open House

USC W. Gordon Belser Arboretum Endowment Fund
The USC W. Gordon Belser Arboretum in the heart of Sherwood Forest is in part supported by two funds established in 2007 by the University of South Carolina. The Belser Arboretum Endowment Fund (#B11336) was established to provide a permanent funding mechanism for the Arboretum operation. Only 5% of interest earned by the Endowment Fund can be used each year; however, this endowment fund once fully funded will guarantee the future of the Arboretum. The second is the Belser Arboretum Fund (#1A3769) which is a spendable fund from which monies can be freely spent for current Arboretum needs.

If you wish to donate to either of these funds, simple write a check to the USC Education Foundation, 1027 Barnwell St, Columbia SC 29208 and indicate in the memo field the name and number of the fund.

For more information or to arrange for large gifts, contact Vincent R. Suarez, Senior Director of Development, 803 777-4232 or mobile 803 260-3645, or email him at vsuarez@mailbox.sc.edu.

Crier emails
We are making an effort to send out these informational emails around the first of every month to keep neighbors up do date on neighborhood events, and other events and information of interest. It's cheaper and better for the environment not to print and pass out fliers! But we could all probably use the exercise!

If you have information of interest to the neighborhood, please pass it along and we may include it in a future Crier.

Tell your friends and neighbors to subscribe. No membership required, but of course we would like everybody to join! New neighbor? Let us know and we'll send out the welcome wagon.

To subscribe, email membership@sherwoodforestneighbors.org or subscribe online
