USC Belser Arboretum Volunteer Opportunities
The Arboretum was spared from any significant effects from Hurricane Irene. However, thanks to a generous donation we have received several loads of new mulch and are in need of volunteers to help spread it along the trail, and to help clear brush from one corner of the property. The next opportunities will be Wednesday, September 14th (weather permitting) anytime between 8am and 2pm at our regularly scheduled Walkers and Workcrew. We are also looking for 2 volunteers to be gate greeters at the next Open House on Sunday, September 18. The Open House is held from 1-4pm, and we ask that volunteers arrive at 12pm to help setup the gate tables and materials. If you are interested in volunteering at any of these times, contact Tina Roper, Arboretum Coordinator, at BelserArboretum@yahoo.com. When you volunteer just 4 hours of your time within a year, you will receive an honorary annual membership into the Friends of the Belser Arboretum organization. More information is available at http://zebra.biol.sc.edu/arboretum/friends_foundation.htm

You may also contribute to the Belser Arboretum Endowment Fund which will provide for long-term reserves that will help support a permanent manager position for care of the Arboretum, as well as funding the upkeep and operation of the Arboretum for the long term. For information on the Endowment Fund, contact Teah Weiss at the University of South Carolina Educational Foundation at (803) 777-2565.

Part-time Job Opportunity

Exchange Student In Need Of A Home
Tricia Goss, the Midlands Representative for the CASE High School Foreign Exchange Program, has a 16 year old German girl attending Dreher High School. She is a friendly, positive girl who loves volleyball, drama, choir and aerobics. She speaks English well and has insurance and spending money. Due to her host parent's unexpected job loss, she needs a new host family as soon as possible for the remainder of the school year. Single parents and couples with no children or children of any age are welcome. Families do not need to have a high school student themselves.

Contact Tricia Goss at 803-732-8982 or 321-947-7671 or triciacaseusa@yahoo.com for more information. See the Cultural Academic Student Exchange web site at http://www.case-usa.org
