SHERWOOD FOREST CRIER

Holiday Recommendations
We hope everyone is staying safe, maintaining recommended practices, and being a good Sherwood Forest neighbor.

Both the City of Columbia and Richland County have public mask wearing ordinances in force and other restrictions. Large gatherings are discouraged.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has extensive information on measures to take to reduce or avoid virus spread risk during the holidays including gatherings, celebrations and travel on the CDC website.
SFNA General Meeting
Tuesday, November 10, 6:30pm-8pm
This general meeting has been canceled.

If you have questions, answers, requests, offers or comments about the neighborhood, you can join the discussion in our SFNA private group on Facebook at facebook.com/groups/sherwoodforestna.

Only your neighbors can see who's in the group and what is posted.
City of Columbia CRT Officer Report
The South Region CRT (Community Response Team) Officer Mason L. Frier is the Sherwood Forest neighborhood contact at the Columbia Police Department. In normal times, he attends our quarterly general meetings. Here is his current update:

"With the holidays coming up, historically our property crimes spike, so we will be conducting operations coming up, but we need help from the community by locking your doors, and securing valuables from your vehicles."

Several of our Sherwood Forest neighbors have reported car break-ins with contents being rifled through. Remember to remove valuables and lock your doors!

Report a personal or property crime immediately to the City of Columbia Police by calling 911. To report suspicious activity, call 911 or the non-emergency number 252-2911 or our CRT (Crime Response Team) Officer Mason L. Frier at 803 391-6203 or mlfrier@columbiasc.net. Then alert your neighbors!

Just in case you were unaware, the 2020 general election will finally take place on Tuesday, November 3!

Sherwood Forest is divided between two voting districts: Precinct 14 and Precinct 17. Ward 14 includes the south side of Duncan Street to Kalmia, the west side of Kalmia south to Mimosa, and the south side of Mimosa to Beltline.

Check your registration, get a sample ballot, find your polling place, check your absentee ballot and more at scvotes.gov.

Enjoy fall in the urban forest. Maintain 6' distance from other groups. Face coverings are strongly recommended. No pets please.

Gates are again open on most Wednesdays 9:30am-1pm.

Check event specifics and sign up for the newsletter on Facebook.

Contact Gail Wojtowicz at 618 402-8736 or by email or see UofSC's Department of Biological Sciences W. Gordon Belser Arboretum web page.

SFNA Adopt-A-Highway Clean Up
Saturday, November 21
The clean up has been canceled. Feel free to freelance in the neantime!

Remember: The neighborhood supplies poop bags (at the corner of Kalmia, Wilmot and Duncan. Thanks John & Sarah Powers for letting us use their corner and Dave Nelson for resupplying the dispenser!), but we don't take packed bags back! And they don't go in yard waste piles! Take 'em home and put them in your green rollcart.

Please contact Dave Nelson at 803 447-4793 or appearance@sherwoodforestneighbors.org for information or any questions.
And last but not least, change your clocks!
Crier emails
We are making an effort to send out these informational emails around the first of every month to keep neighbors up do date on neighborhood events, and other events and information of interest. It's cheaper and better for the environment not to print and pass out fliers! But we could all probably use the exercise!

If you have information of interest to the neighborhood, please pass it along and we may include it in a future Crier.

Tell your friends and neighbors to subscribe. No membership required, but of course we would like everybody to join! New neighbor? Let us know and we'll send out the welcome wagon.

To subscribe, email membership@sherwoodforestneighbors.org or subscribe online
